For Europeans “The Celestial Empire” has always appeared as a far away mysterious and fascinating world of its own.

The word China means “Middle Kingdom”, due to the fact that it is located in the middle of the Asian continent. It is the third largest country in the world by area (after Russia and Canada) but the most populated, with 1.300.000.000 inhabitants.

This vast country gathers an infinite number of landscapes, climates, cultures, ethnic groups and languages, unequalled anywhere else on the planet.

The territory contains a large variety of landscapes, mainly mountains and mountain ranges, which are the highest and most widely spread on the earth, extensive plains and hills and even sea shores. 

There are many different ethnic groups of various historic origins, concentrated mainly in the alluvial plains and in the cities, and they all have one thing in common, their language, they all speak Mandarin. Throughout China however, there are more than 600 different dialects.

The Popolar Republic of China has led the country since 1949, with the exception of Hong Kong and Macao. It is very strong economically, and is the leading producer for various products such as wheat, rice, fish, mineral resources, etc.   

In 2001, after 15 years of negotiations, it became a member of the WTO. Reaching this goal meant the beginning of many economic, political and cultural changes both internally and in general for all the countries of the world.

The very strong gross domestic product of 10 trillion dollars, $7200 pro-capite have turned China into the leading country in the world, attracting large multinational companies that are in search of low cost labour; Due to this, China is now know as the “Factory of the World”.
A trip to China is an exciting and unique experience, full of surprises, where every day you can discover something new about a part of the planet that we know so little about, but that in the end is actually very familiar to us.
